Abstract
CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) has established itself as an alternative therapeutic modality to hemodialysis in the treatment of chronic renal failure patients. Peritonitis in CAPD patients, despite a continuing decrease in its frequency, remains as a major complication and the leading cause of CAPD failure. We analyzed the incidence rate of peritonitis in 15 chronic renal failure patients on CAPD from April, 1994 to November, 1998, in order to elucidate how serious this complication is in the chronic renal failure patients on CAPD. The incidence rate of peritonitis is 0.75 episodes/patient/year, somewhat lower than that of previous report. This decreased incidence rate of peritonitis is supposed to be made by new technique of CAPD for control of infection during CAPD.
